FISHERY RULES

HANDY TO KNOW

A great stretch of the River Stour situated on the southern bank downstream of Canford Bridge. Movement along Oakwood Park is relatively easy using the path. Large catches of Roach and Dace can be made.

Upstream entrance

  • Leave Wimborne on the A349 Poole Road, passing over Canford Bridge.
  • Park on the roadside in Oakley Lane.
  • Closed season in force see rule 2 of general rules of fishing and game fishing is allowed for trout and sea trout.
  • Oakwood Park and Purchases is closed for leisure fishing on the days when matches take place until after the match is finished unless otherwise agreed by the match officials so that fishing may take place beyond the pegged limits of the match.
  • Do not obstruct the walkway/cycle path adjacent to the River’s bank in such a way as to prevent its reasonable use.
  • No bivvies are to be used, and umbrellas may only be used in inclement weather conditions.
  • Any dog brought to the water by a member must be properly supervised and under control at all times.

  • Species- Pike 15lb+, Perch 2lb+, Roach 1lb+, Dace & Bleak
  • Spend some time walking the stretch before fishing to locate the shoals.
  • Travel light.
  • Keep an eye on the wind direction if you're intending to float fish. An upstream wind makes control of the float easier.
  • Check the river levels on the website via the link buttons during the winter months before heading out.
  • Be aware of livestock in fields.
  • Please log any sightings of cormorants via the button on the website.

Downstream entrance

  • Proceed to the top of Oakley Hill and turn left into Oakley Lane by the Willett Arms public house.
  • Park in Oakley Lane just before Canford School.
  • Walk down the drive then left along the gravel track, past the boathouse and enter the fishery through the gate on the right.
