NOVEMBER LAKES REPORT
Hello fellow game fishers,
November seems to have passed very quickly and of course you will all be thinking of what fishing tackle you will be wanting on your Christmas wish list!
With all the rain that we have had WZ is at last the lake that we know and appreciate. The levels are high and the water is absolutely pristine and clear. Perfect conditions really. There is a fair amount of subsurface weed where the fish can hide and this on a bright day can make conditions a bit tricky. A few of you have reported it to be very challenging and some have blanked but in the main though, with perseverance most have caught their ticket limit.
Some of your reports during the month are as follows
• Lots if activity at WZ this morning. Great to see the lake in such a great condition.
10 mins in I landed a 3 lbs 10 oz Rainbow. Switched to a tiny fly grhe and 20 mins later landed a 10lbs dead whopper.
Great fun and beautiful weather!
• x 2 nice fish today at WZ, both on damsels and in spite of the strong wind that made casting really quite difficult.I did a bit of weed clearing around the road entrance corner. We need a fork easily available, say in the lean-too with the rakes, to help pile the debris onto a wheelbarrow, which I would have done but I have left the piles of weed in situ.
• I put the silver flash type fly you recommended and had one at 3lb 2oz as it was getting dark I went back on Wednesday had four more on the same fly again one at 2lb 12oz one at 3lb 4oz one at 3lb 3oz and another at 3lb dead Saturday morning around 7:30 had a 12lb 7oz whopper on the same fly again then nothing all day as was quite busy had one after every one left same fly again just getting dark at 3lb 4oz.
• I took a guest to Zelston yesterday. We struggled to find fish initially but they suddenly “ came on “ at about 1600 and we managed to hook 5 and landed 3 on black and orange Apache. All rainbows at 4 1/2, 3 1/2 and 2 1/2 .Additionally lots of exciting bow waves chasing the fly without actually taking.Your usual hard fighting fish.
• We eventually found the fish this afternoon.
Bizarrely, they were enticed by Grey Wulffs. Clearly the trout can't read a calendar. Mine were 4 1/2 and 2 1/2lb. Usual top quality, hard fighting specimens.
• 2 fish. 3lb 12 and 2lb 14oz
1 Fish 3lb
Caught on big foam daddies on the surface. Good Sport, and the lake looks in fine order thanks to good management and works carried out there.
Tight lines,
Paul
