MAY INFORMATION

This is just a quick informative letting you know that we stocked WZ last week and this includes some amazing specimen fish. Infact on Saturday when we held our training day one of the beginners caught a 11.5 Lb rainbow. I think it bent his rod tip quite well!

JUBILEE STREET PARTY.

On the 4th June the main road leading into Winterborne Zelston will be CLOSED for their Jubilee street party. So access by car is going to be impossible.

Best wishes

MAY NEWSLETTER

Hello fellow game fishers,

May has given us some amazing weather, hot temperatures with intermittent rainfall. This has resulted in early mayfly hatches on the river Stour and some great fishing days.

Jubilee Street Party at WZ 4th June

This is another reminder so that you won’t be inconvenienced that the road in Winterborne Zelston will be closed on the 4th.

Taster Day – WZ 14th May

The highlight of the month was the training day which gave some of our new  members the chance to learn new skills.  Game Fishing is a sport that like any form of fishing allows us to learn new techniques and skills which give real satisfaction once mastered. 16 attended the course which was administered by the club.  We were fortunate in having Mike Bilson as our main coach for the day as he gave our beginners a lesson in casting techniques as well an understanding of the different flies used to emulate those in real life and much more. After which each attendee was given one to one tuition as they tried out their newfound casting skills.

The results were quite remarkable, all but one caught a rainbow. The photos below show one happy young man and a phenomenal fish of 11Ib caught. I think this will be his pb for some time to come.

Of course I must mention the huge amount of effort that goes into the  preparation for such a day. I am incredibly grateful to those senior members who assisted.

 Work parties

Prior to the taster day we held a work party at WZ in order to clear the fast growing weed at this time of year. The Neptune rake was given an outing and a vast amount was extracted..  It is an imperative that we concentrate on keeping the lakes clear and so we also visited Rawlsbury this month to ensure the lakes are in tip top condition. The margins have been mowed and strimmed and once again a huge amount of effort was put in by members. If you have not been to one of these and would like to attend, they are a great deal of fun as well as hard work. Let me know by email if you are available and I will include you on the next available work party listing.

Some of your reports for the month are as follows.

·        Funny old day. Tried the indicator, booby and a cat on an intermediate. Got one tug on the cat, while others caught. Finally saw a fish rise close by the first jetty – had changed back to a buzzer on a floater – that took. Came off.  Shortly had another take on the buzzer. That was 5 ¾ pounds. Lucky to get him in, because the hook had almost straightened! Then another take off a long cast across to the trees. Her cma off. So went home.

·        great afternoon at Zelston, 1@5lb 6oz.1@3lb11oz.fish were on steroids. Caught on green natural looking shrimp.

·        Myself and guest fished Zelston yesterday. Good sport.  4lb 10oz     2lb 10oz    for me.   Guest      3lb 6oz    and lost one .

Mine on a black and green damsel and a pond olive.   His on (I think) a black Matuka.

Pond Olive was taken on the rise as the wet fly landed on surface.  The black and Green was  taken( 4lb 10oz )   on a sink tip maybe 4/5ft down. Very slow almost gentle take.

All 3 inc the lost one were taken from different positions.

There was a buzzer/ midge hatch starting as we were leaving, which would have possibly brought him his second fish, but no time.  We drove away watching the rises!!

·        Myself and 2 guests made the trip to WZ yesterday. Lake in great condition and perfect weather. A great morning’s sport with the hardest fighters I’ve ever had. We all three bagged up in less than 2 hours. Blue flash damsels, woolly buggers and buzzers proved to be the best combo.

Finally, can I remind everyone to please please send me their catch returns As Soon as Possible. It's vital in assisting with restocking schedules.

Also don’t forget to sign in the fishing hut at Rawlsbury at the entrance to the farm.

Tight Lines and have a great time in June!

Paul.
