JUNE LAKES REPORT

Dear Game fishers,

I am sure you have all been enjoying the June sunshine and our brief spell of hot conditions! The weather has been generally kind to us and the gentle breezes for the most part have given you the opportunity for some excellent fishing. Winterbourne Zelston has been popular this month and many of you have spoken about the clarity of the water and the excellent sight fishing. Some have caught pike as well as trout and as you can see below Jim caught a monster at 11Ib 9oz. from the disabled jetty on a size 10 hog louse.

Rawlsbury has not been visited so much this month but as you can see below some are enjoying some great fishing. The catch and release lakes remain very clear which is unusual for this time of year.

Your reports for the month are as follows:-

• Went to w/z this morning first fish first cast 5.5 pounds second fish 4.6 pounds.ost a very large fish again went air over until it got in weeds and I could nothing but break him off, sooner or later he will be mine.

• managed to winkle out two fish 3 lbs and 4lbs 4 oz, both on a size 16 Corixa.

• A bit breezy. Lots of fish visible, cruising around the margins but not rising. Casting towards the centre of the lake, between weed beds, managed to tempt two to dries. Both 3lb and both gave a good fight.

• Four fish taken average weight of 4 to 4.5 lbs.

Fish rising all the while we were there to buzzer and we caught on small dries, the colour didn’t seem to matter.

Great sport and fish in excellent condition, a couple were spooned to show mainly caddis and lots of small buzzer.

• A good day at Zelston despite losing one of your big fish!

I had 2 x Rainbows (4=12 & 4-0) but lost a big fish which rose up like a large submarine to take my damsel nymph! It set off like an express train & I eventually lost it in some weed! Such is life!!

I also saw a huge Pike (approx 3’) lying near the weed near the hut as well as several Jacks around the lake, but best of all a nice eel going into a weed bed!

• Managed my first WZ two at 4lb and 4lb 5oz. Both were surprisingly hard fighting. Both on GHRE? (wee bug) with floating line. Great morning fishing. The weed isn't too bad. It is such a great little water. I cast to both fish, and the takes were really positive. Thanks for keeping this lake to such a high standard.

• Two fish today, one @ 3lb, and No.2 @ 11lb 8oz. What a morning! Jim.

• I had a couple of hours at WZ this afternoon. Great excitement sight fishing. I managed one on a diawl Bach and then tried a black Apache and got two more which came up out of the weed and took. All brilliant fighters.

Weights 5 , 4.4, 4.

• 2 x 5lb fin perfect trout today.

Not much moving, probably due to the bright sunshine but tempted the fish with a small white lure and a blue flash damsel. Quite a few follows but, I think, more out of interest than hunger.

Lake was in great condition.

WORK PARTY

Just a reminder for all those available we will be holding a work party at Rawlsbury this coming Tuesday about 9am. The main effort will be to clear the surface weed and cut the margins.

Hope to see you all there,

Tight lines,

Paul.
