JUNE  LAKES REPORT

Hello fellow Trout anglers,

June has been a bit of a strange month weather wise. Early on we have had hot sun and cold nights followed by large amounts of rain. This has to some extent made the fishing quite challenging. The reports this month have echoed this. They also describe in many cases that the fish are 'wising up' which has meant more decisions to be made on what flies to use. That's the fun though of fishing.

What follows is a few of your catch returns describing your fishing experience.

•        Tried buzzer, size 14 olive gold head and pheasant tail, black daddy, several nymph imitation, even damsel and something for them to chase cats whisker. Lost 2 decent fish, big old headshakes... Next time....

•        Guest – 1x rainbow 5lb Hare’s Ear damsel nymph imitation (he lost two others that didn’t make it to the net)

•        Me – 1x pike 10” Damsel nymph & 1x Rainbow 3lb 8oz on a #12 GHHE (Dark Brown) (I had another on for about two seconds)

•        Fished yesterday and managed two RT’s out of Chapmans but getting very cagey as in Viners.

Where have all the tadpoles gone? Have the trout found that despite their apparent bitter taste they do constitute a decent meal? Nothing like the numbers last week and be interesting to know the answer.

•        A very enjoyable day's fishing yesterday at WZ, made even more interesting to have been there on a day when water conditions were being monitored, we tend to forget that all of these things go on in the background.

Results are:- Gareth as you know landed a 12lb fish on a light olive buzzer and his other fish weighed in at 3lb  14oz

For myself there was a 4lb and a 2lb 10oz, again they took very small olive buzzers.

As always, our thanks for all your work in keeping WZ fishable despite the efforts of the weeds.

•        Plenty of fish. I could get them to look, but no takes.

•        Very difficult, with no catch. Had a couple of takes all day but no joy. Think I tried every Fly possible. Mixed conditions, showers ,cloudy and sunshine with a light breeze. There were a few fish about but not really interested unfortunately.

Can I thank everyone for sending me their catch returns and payment method by email. It really does help me monitor our stock levels in some detail.

Yesterday we held a work party at Rawlsbury. A huge thankyou to all our volunteers. We cleared copious amounts of weed at the far end of Chapmans making this part of the lake very fishable. There were big rises as they fed on insect larvae disturbed by the weed gathering. The whole day was very enjoyable especially as the rain did not arrive and Jan topped this off with her usual delicious refreshments, apple pie included. If you wish to be included in our next work party, please let me know by email they really are very sociable get togethers!

Finally, I am very pleased to announce that Sandys lake at Rawlsbury has been stocked with top condition rainbows.  This is the first time in a few years that this small lake has been usable, thanks to the clearance work by the owner and of course our volunteers. PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS FOR CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY. This means you should always use barbless hooks. We will continue to improve access to the lake but please take care as you move around it.

Best wishes,

Paul
