Trout tickets are available online to members to buy using Paypal but you require a password to access the 'Buy Tickets Page'.

When using a PayPal receipt please record your catch return and PayPal purchase on the special tickets provided at the venues and post this in the returns box; as well as recording on the catch return sheets.

JANUARY LAKES REPORT

Hello fellow game fishers, Happy New Year!

WEED BOAT WZ

On Monday 10th February I have organised a weed boat as we did last year to cut the weed in Winterbourne Zelston. This boat is hired for the day so can I ask for no fishing on this day. You are most welcome of course to come along and observe and we shall need a few of us to tidy up the margins and make the piles larger for later removal. The following day will also be a busy one as we will be removing the weed from the margins and depositing in the paddock. Fortunately, Mervyn will be bringing his machines to lift and transport the weed and saving our backs! February 13th WZ. Work Party to clear surface weed.

February 25th Rawlsbury.

Pre-season work party to clear swims for Chapmans and Cowleaze

March 1st Rawlsbury.

The opening of Rawlsbury will commence on the 1st March and I will give you notice beforehand if there are any difficulties of access as the track to Chapman and Cowleaze is always very soft early on in the year. All being well it should be fine. Can I remind you to sign in at the farm as usual as this is part of our lease condition.

Also please take note that on Saturday the 8th March at Rawlsbury we are hosting an event for the Poole & Wimborne Fly fishing Club. There will be at least 16 fishermen, so the lakes will be very busy and parking difficult.

March 11th AGM

Royal British Legion Hall, Corfe Mullen. On Tuesday the 11th March we will be holding our Annual General meeting for the Trout section where I will revue 2024 and how it has performed in relation to past years. This is an ideal forum for discussion about what improvements we are planning in the coming year. If you wish to raise any issues about your membership, then please send me your views prior to the meeting so that I can include them on the agenda.

The weather has played havoc with the fishing this month and there were only a few of us braving the elements. Your reports are as follows.

• Perfect weather for fishing today at WZ. Arrived at 1300 to an empty lake just how I like it! A cormorant was circling overhead like some harbinger of doom but didn't land on the water, preferring to stand sentinel on the lodge roof. Started off on the cow field jetty casting towards the lodge. Wooly bugger, grhe on a slow retrieve and a yellow dancer failed to deliver. Relocation to the far jetty and a switch to a buzzer still no joy! In desperation I cast out a cats whisker and the instant take caught me by surprise. A attracting a rainbow of 3.5 lbs landed without mishap! An hour of excitement and anticipation reached a crescendo when I aught my line on the bottom... Or so I thought... The fish rolled in defiance of my strike to reveal a massive girth and enormous fins. I knew it was a big fish and was surprised at its capricious agility, leaping and rolling in an effort to shake my de - barbed hook! After a 20 minute battle of wits I brought the fish in close. I was using a 9 ft leader with another 9 foot tippet, so was nervous of running the flurocarbon through the rings. Looking like a circus contortionist I managed to land the monster and it's pictured here next to its little brother: 7 lbs exactly. What a way to start the new year!

• It was hard work; too sunny I think. I had one at 4.5lb which went like a rocket on a small olive buzzer, else a couple of pulls but nothing on the hook.

• 2 x 4lb fish today. One on red baby doll and one on a grey wulff. Both had stomachs full of stones. On the last day of the month this fine 5Ib rainbow took Alan down to his backing twice! Note the huge tail and magnificent colours.
