DECEMBER LAKES REPORT

Hello everyone,

I am sure like me your thoughts are already considering what 2022 will bring.  Let us all hope that there will be no more Covid restrictions and we can all look forward to a more settled year ahead. Unlikely I know. However, lets turn to more pleasant fishing matters.

The fish that we introduced to WZ only recently this month have produced some great reports. Chief among them a 9Ib specimen on Christmas Eve (See below). I fished the day before and although you would expect to catch fairly quickly after a recent restock it was by no means easy. I managed a 5Ib rainbow after a few hours hard fishing. In the end the best of the day went to our chairman at over 7Ib. I think he was pleased. The fight it put up had us all wondering at the strength of these fish, they are truly remarkable.

Some of your reports are included below:-

·        Great afternoon at WZ myself and guest took four fighting rainbows. Flies were BF Damsels, epoxy buzzer dead slow retrieve, and a silver humongous. all the action was in the bottom corner near the hut casting out from the bank towards the right hand platform

·        Had a session down at WZ on Christmas Eve morning. A bit of occasional drizzle and light winds. A nice brace was had. One at 4lb 8 oz and the other 3lb 3 oz. The latter put up a real fight !!!. Both caught on a Black Hothead Damsel

·        I had the opportunity to fish it on the morning of the 26th December. Weather was perfect, a very light westerly breeze with a few scattered showers, one of which hit at about 11. The lake was crystal clear with a number of fishing rolling here and there. It didn't take me more than 6 casts to hook my first, a good fighting fish coming in at 3lbs 1oz. An hour or so more of stalking and I caught my second, another good fight and a fish of 3lbs 5oz.

·        I caught them both from the north west quadrant of the lake, one from the Cow Field jetty of 3lbs 14 oz fishing towards the Hut jetty and the second straight into the wind from the Hut jetty fishing into the wind back towards the Cow Field Jetty  of 7lbs 2oz.  If there was food being driven by the wind this is where the fish were going to be.  Both were lovely fish and were caught on the same fly there are photos and a video of the big one taken by Bob. The line was a clear intermediate triangular taper and the leader was 'Ace Hard' 6.6lbs by Seagur.  As you were there you know how well they fought and what good condition they were in.

Thank you to  everyone for sending me your returns. Please do so as soon as you can with details of your payment. This really helps me to keep good records of your catches and shows how quickly we need to restock.

All that remains is to wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year.

Dare I say it TIGHT LINES!

Paul.
