HANDY TO KNOW

This stretch of the Dorset Stour is the match length from the boathouse at Canford School upstream on the lefthand bank, a fishery that is wider and deeper than further up, it comes into its own once the first floods have cleared the heavy weed growth with good catches possible in the right conditions.

  • Leave Wimborne on the A349 Poole Road, passing over Canford bridge
  • Park on the roadside at the bottom of Oakley Hill
  • Coarse season 16th June - 14th March
  • Toilets - NO
  • Parking (designated parking only) - NO
  • Club Key Needed - NO
  • Night Fishing - NO
  • Disabled Access - NO
  • Guest Tickets Available - YES
  • Closed season enforced see rule 2 of general rules of fishing and game fishing is allowed for trout and sea trout.

 

  • Species- Pike 15lb+, Perch 2lb+, Roach 1lb+, Dace & Bleak
  • Spend some time walking the stretch before fishing to locate the shoals.
  • Travel light.
  • Keep an eye on the wind direction if you're intending to float fish. An upstream wind makes control of the float easier.
  • Check the river levels on the website via the link buttons during the winter months before heading out.
  • Be aware of livestock in fields.
  • Please log any sightings of cormorants via the button on the website.
