Match Section - up-to-date news and information

WELCOME TO WDAC MATCH SECTION

WDAC has a well-established and popular match section. Match attendances regularly exceed 24 entrants and it is customary to pay out 1st, 2nd and 3rd places with a silver fish payout in addition. Matches are held almost every Sunday throughout the year, with a popular evening series running Wednesday evenings 1700 - 2100 May - Aug. There is huge camaraderie with stiff competition for bragging rights. Matches are fished at both club and local commercial venues with fees, including pools, ranging from £12 to £20 dependant on location.

WDAC match secretary is Mr Jim Finch. all bookings should be made through Jim no later than the preceding Friday evening.

Jim is contactable on 01258 489400 during working hours and on 01258 453761 at all other times.

CLUB MATCH EDMONDSHAM: 27th AUGUST 2017

A beautiful summers day though too hot for some and expectations were high for good sport on this lovely fishery.  Too hot for the angler often proves too hot for the fish, their hunger perhaps to come with the cool of the evening.  As it turned out, not a bad result for a non-commercial fishery and the fish were, as always in perfect condition.

We met Chris Dimmock, a new member who has recently moved to Dorset and is keen to continue to fish club matches.  He made a good start with a third place overall and the top weight of silver fish

Counting cash and working out the pools payout is seen here being achieved by just four people working as a team.

Stuart looks on unconvinced that much progress is being made.

Regulars will immediately recognise Mick Bartlett who on this occasion has chosen to wear a traditional match angler outfit in grey.

Note the careful attention to detail to ensure the grey colour theme runs through the whole ensemble.  Socks pulled up to an even height too!

Edmondsham club match

Results:

1st Mick Bartlett 29lbs. 0oz.

2nd Mike Jepson  21lbs

3rd Chris Dimmock 14lbs

The picture shows Mick Bartlett with his, three carp weighing 27lbs 8oz.

Revels club match

A popular venue with the match section, well stocked and the good water quality enables the fish to grow quickly.

However, on this occasion we couldn’t have picked a worse day for fishing. Low cloud, mist, then wind and showers of rain prevailed throughout the match making things difficult and uncomfortable so the camera stayed in the dry.

In this match points are awarded for the highest weight of both carp and silver fish and so to do well it is essential to weigh in a good bag of each.

The result was as follows:

1st Chris Albiston  77lbs 8oz

2nd Jem Turner  66lb 8oz

3rd Jim Finch  52lb 12oz

CHRISTMAS MATCH

LADIES AND VETERANS MATCH

September seems to be the month that some of our larger shopping outlets bring out their Christmas stock and this has prompted me to remind you to ensure you book in early for our, ever popular Christmas Fayre match which is on the 3rd of December.  The venue is Packhorse Lake which has limited space hence the need book early to avoid disappointment.

Initially scheduled for 6 September, this had to be cancelled as so few entries were received.  In the past, this was a popular match but perhaps interest in this sort of event have changed so it may have to be dropped from the match calendar.  I would encourage members who wish to retain these matches in the list for next year to contact Jim direct.

Committee Match  30 July

Evening Series 2 August

Dandy’s Ford 6 August

WDAC v TVAC 13 August

Homeground Lake, Todber

Jim Finch - Match section secretary

COMMITTEE MATCH: 30th JULY 2017

The day started with a fine barbeque followed at half time with tea and bacon rolls.  The draw for pegs also went well but as is often the case in match fishing, things went quickly downhill from this point. Chris Crompton the Membership Secretary started fishing immediately, unaware that he should wait for the whistle to signal the start of the match.  On reaching his peg, the Steve Neale the Head Bailiff promptly baited up his swim and Mike Hirsh the Club Chairman set up a fly rod to target the surface feeding carp.  The match started and Paul Nicholls the Trout Section Secretary began spinning for perch and the match was won in the first 5 minutes by the Stuart Hitchman the Club Secretary who landed a 11lb carp with his first cast.

For most, as all hope of winning quickly passed and the day reverted to being a social event as it had apparently never been serious competition anyway.  A few dedicated souls soldiered on until the final whistle in the hope of a landing a 12lb carp.

The day ended with tea and cake and everyone thought it would be a good idea to do it all again next year.

RESULTS

Stuart Hitchman  -  11lbs 12oz

Malcolm Taylor - 10lbs 8oz

Mike Jepson - 7lbs 0oz

Edmondsham - Probably the most peaceful place to fish in Dorset

EVENING SERIES

Over the summer months a series of eight three-hour matches take place on our lakes and points are awarded for each match, the winner being the angler with the lowest points scored.

Result

Winner - 22 points Pete Christopher

Runner up 29 points Colin Parman

I am told Pete won most of the matches because he drew a string of good pegs.  Well they would say that wouldn’t they.

DANDY'S FORD

Club Match 6 August 2017

Dandy’s Ford - Results

1st  Chris Albiston  209lbs. 4oz

2nd  Nick King  127lbs

3rd  Colin Parman 105lbs

Congratulations to Chris in exceeding the 200lb mark, again.

He said if he hadn’t suffered some quiet spells his weight would have been much greater. Nobody likes to see that, do they.

Kevin Parman (pictured) who was on the next peg and struggling for a bite was particularly pleased for him

INTERCLUB MATCH 13th AUGUST 2017

Wimborne 'v' Test Valley

RIVER MATCH

Packhorse Lake, Kingsbridge

1st  N King 106lb 2oz  (W)

2nd  A Palmer  94lb  (TV)

3rd J Finch 78lb 2oz (W)

4th A Hillman 64lb 12oz (TV)

5th M Bartlett 54lb 12oz (W)

6th M Mancey 51lb 8oz (W)

7th M Jepson 49lb 12oz (W)

8th G Wright 44lb 8oz (TV)

Wimborne  239lbs

Test Valley  203lbs 12oz

Jim tells me with an hour to go he had 2lbs in his net.  He moved to his inside line and took another 76lbs before the final whistle.  Perhaps he should have moved earlier.

Thirteen fished this match but only three anglers attended from Test Valley so on this occasion the sum of the top three weights from each Club decided the winner.

It seems several people may be interested in fishing a Club match on the river this year.  I understand Mike Cullen is looking into this possibility so contact him or Jim Finch to register your support.

REFLECTIONS

I hear talk of a memorial match to mark the recent passing of three of our match fishing friends, John Steel, Mick Maidment and Terry Hiscock.  Thus far it is only talk so it is with regret, I have no date and venue for your diaries. Further details will hopefully follow soon.
