British Summer Time began on the 31st of March and as write I watch the hailstones fall on my lawn it seems winter still has its grip.  The river was in spate as the season closed so any last chance of a days fishing were dashed.  Still waters will continue to be a challenge as their waters warm and fish respond to the sudden changes of temperature and light

As we reach the middle of the month the river looks to be in perfect shape as it often does in the close season but already there are reports of below average rainfall, ‘up north’ and restrictions on water abstraction from some rivers.
