MARCH LAKES REPORT
Dear Fellow Trout Anglers
Winterborne Zelston was restocked by the Club during week beginning 24th February.
Despite the continued wet weather, the trout lane has been busy through February. The Club's policy of stocking a number of larger fish, along with normal stock sizes, is attracting regular visits from the members.
Recently a rainbow of over 10lbs was netted, and before that a fish of over 6lbs was landed. Fish in the 3 to 4lb size are not unusual. This still leaves in the lake some trophy size fish to be caught.
The Club would ask members to carefully consider the strength of leaders being used, as we have received reports of fish breaking leaders. An 8lb breaking strain leader would not be a bad choice.
The Club has recently inspected the lakes at Rawlsbury. Access to stock these lakes or to fish them is presently impossible.
The constant rain through the winter means that the field next to Chapmans Lake is waterlogged and vehicles are unable to drive in or out. Those of you who regularly fish Rawlsbury will know that access in February and March is tricky at the best of times. And this winter has been especially wet.
The Club is in contact with the farm manager and regular inspections will take place. As soon as we are able to stock the lake we will inform members and open the lakes for fishing. The Club will carefully monitor fish levels at Winterborne Zelston, which is presently fishing well.
If you have any queries, please contact the Club. Hopefully we'll all enjoy some drier weather soon, and please enjoy your fishing.
Dates for diaries:
The Game Section AGM is pencilled in for the evening of Tuesday, March 17th in Corfe Mullen. Confirmation will be sent out to all club members in the next newsletter. I very much hope to see as many of you there as possible to talk about tackle testing trout and also to review how the game section is doing, to look at the year ahead and to answer any questions you may have.
