A warm welcome to the WDAC Game section. The Club has two beautiful dedicated trout venues, three lakes in total at Winterborne Zelston and Rawlsbury.

See below for details on how to buy your game tickets and for up-to-date game-related news.

WINTERBORNE ZELSTON

The lake continues to fish well. Most people are filling their ticket and a new batch of fish was stocked at the beginning of April. The height of the lake has dropped back to a more normal level and fishing is possible from all banks. The weed is only just beginning to grow, and the lake is looking at it's best at the moment.

Please remember that there is a Club rule asking anglers not to fish in front of the bungalows and out buildings in the south-east corner of the lake. As you can imagine, it would be very easy to cause our neighbours problems on the back cast.

SATURDAY 4th MAY is the Club's Beginners Day at Zelston and the lake will be closed for the day. We have almost achieved our target of 20 participants, who will attend at various pre-planned times during the day. This day is for novices, who will be given professional coaching on how to cast, and who, hopefully, will catch there first rainbow trout.

Anyone requiring further details please contact the Game Secretary.

RAWLSBURY

Despite some heavy rain in March, the new season at Rawlsbury is going well. One or two larger fish have been caught, but there are still some eight pounders and some brown trout yet to be landed.

The April work party cleared many overhanging branches and much low scrub from the swims under the trees on the north-east bank. So short line nymphing and dry fly fishing is now possible in those swims. The dam bank has had it's first cut this year, so if the breeze is from the south or the west, fishing from there should be easy to do.

Some work on Cowlease has started to clear more bushes and small trees. If you're good at roll casting it's a lovely lake for stalking.

With clear skies and warm weather it's definitely worth letting your fly go down deep to try and find the bigger fish.

SATURDAY 18th MAY

Rawlsbury will be hosting a Charity day run by Wimborne Fly Tiers club. In the past they have raised money for charities such as Julia's House. Whilst we would not wish to close the lake to members, in practical terms it would be difficult to fish with this Charity day in progress. Please contact the Game Secretary if you have any queries.

Enjoy your fishing.
