A warm welcome to the WDAC Game section. The Club has two beautiful dedicated trout venues, three lakes in total at Winterborne Zelston and Rawlsbury.

See below for details on how to buy your game tickets and for up-to-date game-related news.

Dear Fellow Trout Anglers

Another quick update!  Rawlsbury was stocked on June 24th - both Chapmans and Cowleaze. Again, the great conditioned fish that we’ve all been enjoying, but this time the average weight was over 4lb (a little higher than the three and a quarter to three and a half that we’re aiming for). The lakes look in great condition. The banks have been freshly mown and bankside vegetation strimmered in places for easy access and casting. Water clarity in Cowleaze and Chapmans has really improved over the last two weeks and we’ll shortly be undertaking measures to try and keep on top of the weed growth, before it interferes with fishing.

Fishing can be hard when it’s this hot and sunny. The fish are likely to head for cool and shade during the day so look for deeper water, shade from trees or try fishing a fly alongside any patches of floating weed - the fish like taking the shade underneath.

Viners lake, at the top of the valley, is a catch and release lake which you can fish if you buy a standard Rawlsbury ticket. It’s there so if you catch your limit quickly, you can carry on fishing and as a “reward” for venturing out into the heart of Dorset countryside. It’s always been a brown trout only water but the brownies can be hard to tempt so, as some of you have discovered, there are also now a few rainbow trout in there too. We deliberately stocked the rainbows when we opened last month. Just a few as an experiment, to see what might happen and as additional reward for our members who fish Rawlsbury. They fight hard so please try to land quickly so as not to over tire them, handle carefully, preferably unhooking in the water and then be patient reviving them. This is particularly important when it’s warm and water temps are high as this can make it harder for them to recover. Do also let me know of any that you catch when you email me your catch returns (thank you to everyone for doing that - it really helps me keep on top of what’s happening so we can try and keep up the great sport) as we want to understand how often they get caught and your general view of this experiment. Do also let me know if you see any that have died. I should add that they are being caught and returned - I had two myself last week.

Remember that my previous updates (including the various important social distancing and hygiene measures) are all on the website in the Game Section reports so you can look back if you wish.

Finally, thank you again to all who are helping run the club and the game section - very much appreciated

Best wishes and enjoy the fishing
