CORMORANT

SURVEY

A peaceful stretch set in beautiful Dorset countryside, The fishery has a mill pool, a weir and both shallows and deep runs which offer a wide variety of fishing challenges.

  • From Wimborne take the B3082 until you reach Blandford. Turn right and follow the signs to Stourpaine.
  • Continue along this road to a set of traffic lights. Turn left onto the A357 to Durweston.
  • In Durweston take the second turning on the right.  Mill Lane. This is almost immediately after Water Lane.
  • Two parking spaces are available at the Mill for members use (see diagram). Members are requested to leave a note on their windscreen identifying them as WDAC member.
  • Under no circumstances are members to park at the Mill if the identified spaces are occupied. Instead park at the top of the lane.
  • Closed season enforced see rule 2 of general rules of fishing and game fishing is allowed for trout and sea trout.
  • Youngsters from the village are permitted to fish the stretch without WDAC membership.
  • Fishing from dawn until one hour after dusk.
  • No night fishing.
  • No dogs.
  • Do not damage trees or shrubs around the fishery.

  • Spend some time walking the stretch before fishing to locate the shoals.
  • Travel light.
  • Keep an eye on the wind direction if you're intending to float fish. An upstream wind makes control of the float easier.
  • Check the river levels on the website via the link buttons during the winter months before heading out.
  • Be aware of livestock in fields.
  • Please log any sightings of cormorants via the button on the website.
